How do I clean my ProImage PosterPrinter?

At regular Intervals, follow these simple steps to keep the printing unit of your Prolmage in top condition. Unplug your Prolmage from its outlet before cleaning it.

Cleaning the Printer

  1. Use only a dry or slightly dampened soft cloth to clean the external surfaces. To clean the thermal heads, wait at least two minutes after turning off the power to let them cool down.
  2. Open the printer cover by lifting tee open/ close lever, then wipe the heads with a foam-tipped swab dampened with isopropyl alcohol. (See the inset in the following illustration.) Allow the alcohol to dry before turning on the Prolmage.
  3. To clean the paper feed rollers, wipe them with a soft cloth dampened with water, then wipe them again with a dry soft cloth. Do not use isopropyl alcohol on the rollers. Alcohol will damage the rollers.
  4. To clean the platen ru6ber, wipe it gently with a soft dry cloth. Be careful not to damage this part, or it will affect the quality of printed images. Do not use isopropyl alcohol or any other solvents on the platen. Alcohol will damage the platen.
  5. To maintain smooth operation of the cutter assembly, occasionally lubricate the entire width of the cutter rail with a light coating of petroleum jelly.
Cleaning the Scanner
  1. Keep the platen glass, the platen roller, the eject roller, and the document feed roller free of dust and paper particles. (See the illustration below.)
  2. At regular intervals, open the scanner cover (see the illustration at right). Wipe each part labeled in the illustration below with a dampened soft cloth, then wipe again with a soft dry cloth.
  3. If the platen glass is still not clean, use a small amount of commercial glass cleaner on the dampened cloth, then wipe once more with the dry cloth. Do not spray glass cleaner or any other liquid into the Prolmage.

I have lines on my poster that are not on my original?

Lines may appear on you poster in the vertical direction or horizontal direction, (as the poster feeds out of the machine). Depending on the direction of the lines, you will need to check the following.

Vertical
  1. The line(s) may be coming from something stuck to the scanner glass. See the section above on cleaning your PosterPrinter.
  2. The exception would be if there were 2 lines in the center of the poster evenly spaced, the problem may be with a worn Platen. The Platen is the blue rubber strip that runs along the bottom of the PosterPrinter. If this is the case the Platen will need to be replaced, it cannot be cleaned with any type of solvent.
Horizontal
  1. Lines in the horizontal direction are typically created by the print heads. See the section on cleaning the print heads above.
  2. You can tell which of the three print heads may be causing the problem, (there are three), by opening the printer cover and lining the poster up with the print heads.
  3. Each print head prints in a vertical section of the poster called a "Zone". Each Zone is evenly spaced across the width of the poster and as long as the poster. So if you see lines that repeat continuously down the poster in a particular zone, you know to clean the print head for that Zone. If after cleaning you do not see an improvement, call your service representative.

The PosterPrinter makes a squeaky noise when printing.

This problem may be caused by the shaft that the shuttle assembly rides on. The shuttle assemble is the unit that the print heads are all mounted on. To stop the noise, apply a light machine oil, (WD40 or equivalent) to the sliver metal shaft under the top cover. Slide the shuttle assembly to the opposite end of the machine to lube the other end of the shaft. I recommend that you apply the oil to your fingers, then rub it on the shaft. Do not spray anything directly in to the machine!

Connecting my PosterPrinter to my computer. ProImage, Plus, XL only.

First you must have the ProLynx option to print from your computer. If you would like the option, please contact us. The ProLynx connects your Prolmage to an IBM PC compatible or Apple Macintosh computer. It accepts print files from many common software packages. Using the ProLynx, the Prolmage automatically prints multiple page posters, so you don't need to monitor the machine. Based on the software application you use, the system can print many copies of a single poster, saving you time. The system also inserts cut marks between pages, allowing you to easily identify and cut between individual posters.
The ProLynx enables your Prolmage to act as an Epson LQ-1050 graphics printer or Epson LQ- 1070 graphics printer for your application software files. If you have a PC and want to use ProLynx, set up your application software to use either of these printer drivers:
bulletEpson LQ- 1 050 graphics printer (180 x 180 DPI) or Epson LQ-1070 graphics printer (360 x 360 or 180 x 180 DPI).

Note: The ProImage Plus and the ProImage XL use their own windows print driver to take advantage of the extended feature they offer.

Printing
The way you do this depends on:

bulletwhether you are using DOS or Microsoft Windows
bulletthe application software you are using

Refer to your system or application software user's guide.

If you have a Macintosh, simply install the ProLynx print driver provided in your ProLynx Kit.

When you are ready to print your file, just select the appropriate printer (driver) in your control panel or chooser. Follow the same procedure you would use to send files to any other type of printer. The only setting you need to make on the Prolmage control panel is the PAPER TYPE. The files are sent to the Prolmage.
Once you start the printing process, the Prolmage display will show "ON LINE.' (As long as the Prolmage is on line, you are unable to use its scanning function; none of the control panel buttons are operational during this time.)

What To Do If.

Solution

You send a file and get a printer error message The ProLynx or Prolmage may not be plugged in:
bulletMake sure the printer is on.
bulletMake sure the cables between the computer and ProLynx are connected.
bulletUse the Parallel interface for PC and I recommend the Modem port from the MAC to ProLynx
Poster doesn't match original (e.g. borders are not centered, pan of image is missing at edge, poster prints solid color) There may be problems with your application software:
bulletEnsure the file has proper page setup and printer specified.
bulletRefer to the technical data sheet provided with the ProLynx.
bullet·Contact your application software vendor.
The computer locks up or you cannot access the application You may have hardware or software problems .Contact your computer technician.
In the middle of a print job, you realize you want to make a change Stop the Prolmage from printing:
  1. Stop printing from your computer.
  2. Press the START/STOP/ADVANCE button on the Prolmage, clear the print job, and advance the paper.
  3. Make the change.
  4. Cut the Prolmage paper.
  5. Re-send your file.
You receive a printer busy message in your application program Someone else is using the ProLynx. Retry printing when the other person is finished.
The READY light blinks for more than 30 seconds without printing The ProLynx needs to be reset: Press the START/STOP/ADVANCE button.
